We are learning to use conjunctions to make our sentences sound better

A conjunction is a joining word. The following are examples of conjunctions:
and
although
as
because
but
if
or
We need to use a conjunction to join together two short sentences.
For example
The vase was very expensive. It had to be made by hand.
The vase was very expensive because it had to be made by hand.

Can you write a sentence that has a conjunction in it?

Wheel-a-thon

Today we went out to Levels Raceway with our bikes for a school fundraiser. Over the last few weeks we have worked hard to collect sponsorship and today we earned money for every lap we completed.
This week Amy brought a very large apple to school. Some children predicted how heavy it was, then we weighed it to see if they were right. Amy's apple weighed 675 grams.

Maths time

Today we looked at the weight of different food items found in the pantry at home. We then had to arrange them from lightest to heaviest. This is something you could also do at home, but remember to ask your parents first.

Poem - Week 9

Bike Safety

When riding a bicycle, please be smart
Safety first right from the start

Wear a helmet on your head
Make sure it fits, that's what I said

Do not play around on any road
And do not carry a heavy load

Do not ride on a busy street
And do not ride while you try to eat

Always stop at every stop sign
Think safety first, and you'll do fine

When riding a bicycle, please be smart
Safety first right from the start

We have had Rose in our class this week. She lives in Christchurch and her school was damaged in the earthquake. She goes back to Christchurch today. Rose, you were an absolute delight to have. All the best with what awaits you back home.

Spot the Difference

In the first photo, Finley has found some rubbish around the school. He kindly picked it up and put it in the bin. But if you look at his art from another angle, you will notice a different photo. Very clever Finley!

Week 6 Poem

SCHOOL ASSEMBLY

At two fifteen we’re seated
Ready and rearing to go
Parents posed and waiting
To watch our fabulous show

We got up at assembly
And performed our little act
The audience enjoyed it
They cheered and they clapped

It was fun to share our learning
With the rest of the school
To see them smile back at us
Made us feel quite cool

So when it comes to next time
To have our turn once more
We won’t be quite as nervous
We’ll have confidence galore!
